What is Junior Roller Derby?
Our Mission: Help girls (& boys) become their best while training them to compete in amateur roller derby competitions. Promoting and fostering communication, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Roller derby can be a full contact sport played on roller skates. The junior version is broken down by age and skill level. We call that no contact or light contact.
A bout or scrimmage consists of two teams with five members each. Bouts have two 30-minute half’s. Teams face off in a series of 2 minute "jams". The Jammer scores points by lapping members of the opposing team.
Teammates known as Blockers assist their Jammer while blocking the opposing Jammer — in effect, playing both offense and defense simultaneously.
